Athletics Sports Recount By Ken P

 Athletics Day

Yay, It's finally athletics day. When I arrived at school Miss Mia wrote on my hand “TT2”. I think it was for the housing sort out and it actually was. Sadly the games started at 10:00 AM. Which means we had to wait for ONE hour. So… we had to do our writing work, and our scripts for the assembly. But finally the time I was waiting for, the bell rang at 10:00 AM. Dwight screamed softly “Lets the games begin”. That's what actually happened, Now we had to get sorted into our house teams. I was in TT2 which meant “Te Tatua two. Our team leader was kori

Now it was time for the first activity called ‘Gumboot throw’. We did this activity with Miss Sullings. All we had to do was throw a gumboot as far as we could. Sadly the Seniors had to use a big heavy gumboot which was hard for me to throw. Kori had the furthest throw reaching the third row of cones. This bell started ringing. I thought it was the morning tea bell but it was the bell to move to the next activity. Miss sullings gave us three, Which was 30 house points.

Alright, it is time for the egg and spoon race, Miss Virginia told us we don’t use our mouth. Instead we use our hands. Miss Virginia sorted us into four groups of two and three. THe one person in my group of two was Jia, but I Said “Why are all the groups made up of three people?. We are the only two person group”. The group in front of us was actually part of our team. The point of the game was to get every person to have  a ture. Your team has to sit down for the win. During the end we were meant to do a potato and spoon race but we had no time. The bell rang. Miss Virginia gave us a three.

The next station was long jump with Miss Paton. You had to try and get the furthest jump. When it was my turn Miss Paton waved and I dashed towards the pit of sand. I made it between the green and blue flags. Once Dwight when I was amazed. He reached the furthest flag. The bell started ringing, Miss paton gave us two

This next station looked quite fun. It was called catch the tail. The first tagger was Sharon, I was just running around in circles until I noticed Sharon started chasing me. I just kept on running. My Tyrell started counting down from five. He blew the whistle. The next tagger was Siaki, Hegot kori. Mr Turell said “If you get tagged your a tagger next round”. Kori got Dwight and suddenly got everyone. The bell rang. My tyrell gave us three. The morning tea bell rang.

After morning tea Mr Hadnett told us to sit in front of the library. My Hadnett told Kori to go to Owen and Mia.

The next station was with Owen and Mia. The game was called bean bags. We had to throw three bean bags into one of the buckets. The other team THeresa was Cheating, by going to the Junior throwing area which was closer. They won all of it, We couldn’t even win ONE game. We did win the last game so I was fine to lose.

This next activity looked interesting. It was called the skipping race. You had to take a skipping rope and skip all the way until the yellow line. The next thing we did was to skip until the yellow line, and run all the way back. At the end of this activity we had to swing the rope under our legs using one hand. Miss Heimuli gave us a three.

The next activity was called the three legged race. We had to find a partner that is nearly the same height as you. Miss Whyburd told us to get a tied band and put your foot inside it, your partner also had to put their leg inside the band. On the first race. It was hard since your partner speed should be the same speed as you. Me and Theresa said “Left Right Left Right!” to make it easier. Miss Whyburd gave us a three.

Finally, The sack race. It was my favourite since it was challenging. Mrs D’Souza was on this activity. Mrs D’Souza told us to get in groups of two. My partner was Sharon. When I got into the bag I felt like I would fall a bunch of times but that didn’t happen. When I was hoping for Sharon I was like a Kangaroo. When I reached Sharon she went into the sack and hopped all the way until the finish line. We did the same thing until we had to get into groups of three. We let timnet in our group. To make this work you had to run and slap the hand of the person you're going to. We won it. The bell rang which was the lunch time bell. Mrs D’Souza gave us a three. But for some reason we had an early lunch.

After lunchtime we lined up in teams in front of the library. Mr Hadnett told us what would happen.

Mr Hadnett dismissed us and we headed down the field. My heart was racing as fast as a cheetah. But right when I heard it was by year level I started to feel more calmt (well not really). I was called to go  at the side of the track. The people I was racing were Michael, Siaki, Jenesys, Rocio, Ethan, and Ken F. I was worried since Jenesys is really fast. 3… 2… 1… Go! Ok Ken you can do this I thought to myself. No way I beat Jenesys. I got first place. Miss Virginia gave me a note that says ‘1’.Which means first place. Miss Virginia told me to go to Mr Hadnett. I don’t know how many house points but I knew it's a lot of house points.

No no no, It's time for tug of war. Which is really hard. My first battle was Te Tatua Vs Puketepapa. But we lost. The next battle for Te Tatua Te Tatua Vs Owairaka. Here's why I hate a tug of war. WE LOST AGAIN. Ok let's stop talking about losing, let's talk about winning. It was Room 1 and Room 2 Vs Parents. Yeehee we finally won. At the end Mr Hadnett said the final house points “in fourth place Te Tatua, in third place Owairaka, in Second place Puketepapa, and finally in first place Maungawhau ''. One of the best parts of athletics day is that we lose A LOT.

Overall Athletics day was really fun except for the losing. I really enjoyed athletics day. One of the most fun school days for 2020.
