Here is a slideshow of our beautiful symmetry art. We were very lucky to have Mrs Kopua teach Miss Paton how to create one of these master pieces. From there, Miss Paton taught us. Teaching and learning at its best. Sharing of knowledge and skills provide wonderful opportunities. These artworks are double sided so we can enjoy them  inside and out.

Happy Birthday, Athena

On Sunday it was Athena's Birthday.
To mark the celebration, Tiffany (her mother) bought in two cakes. One rainbow coloured cake and a banana cake for the staff. It was a wonderful surprise cutting up the birthday cake to see the array of colours. The senior girls in Room 1 serenaded Athena with the birthday song. It was a very special time for Athena. Thank you so much Tiffany for bringing in the cakes. They were enjoyed by the students and staff.

Fun in Room 1-Playing Guess Who

Today during the wet lunch time Miss Paton introduced the Year 5's and the wet day monitors in her class to the game Guess Who. This actual game was bought for Miss Paton when she was a child. It is over thirty years old, but has been made to last. It was wonderful to get a traditional board game out today and to have the students play against each other and also verse the teacher. We all had to ask questions to identify each others person.

Whanau Learning at its Best!

Thank you so much to the parents that attended the New to Chromebook Meetings yesterday morning (Tuesday March 5th) and this afternoon (Wednesday March 6th).  It was wonderful to meet you all and to form partnerships in supporting your child's digital learning. We had a fabulous turnout. Here is the slideshow that was presented at the meeting. If you have any questions feel free to pop into Room 1. Signed copies of the Kawa of Care document that were filled in at this afternoon's meeting, will be given to your child on Friday. Let me know how you go with logging into the Parent Portal and exploring your child's learning. If there are any issues, please let your child know and I will investigate. Those that bought Chromebooks or are taking them home today for the first time, please charge them tonight for tomorrow's learning. Chargers are to stay at home. Chromebooks and cases are to be brought to school each day. Thank you so much for your support.

* There was a black Pagani cardigan that was left behind after the meeting. If this cardigan belongs to you, send your child to Room 1 for collection. It is on the chair.

Meet the stars in Room 1: Introducing Ana

Ana is one of returning stars to Room 1. We look forward to sharing her learning on this blog throughout the year.

Malo e lelei, Hello and Greetings, my name is Ana. I am Tongan and Fijian from my Mum’s side. I am a New Zealander and I’m Irish from my Father’s side. I have 3 siblings, 2 brothers and 1 sister. My favourite sport is volleyball because it is fun to play. I like to try and jump and hit the ball. My favourite colours are red, blue, and white. My hobbies are playing outside, going on the computer and going to the mall. My favourite subjects at school are Art, PE, and Maths.

I am a student at Christ the King School. I am good at Maths and Art. I really enjoy doing these subjects at school and playing with my friends. My challenges this year are to try and come to school everyday and learn lots of new things. My goal this year is to try and work hard and learn new things and be the best I can be.

I am looking forward to going to camp and learning new things this year. I got a certificate last
year from prize giving. It was a special occasion. My family friends and teacher inspired me by
telling me to work harder and I am very happy that I am working harder this year.
I love to share my learning on my blog because other people can see that Christ the
King School is a great school. People can learn some new things from my blog and others
from CTK students.

Our Time at MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology)

Today the whole school went to MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology). It was a great day. We enjoyed visiting the Above and Beyond Display and the technology room where there was a selfie machine that projected ourselves on this circular screen. Kent was our educator who taught us about Flight. It was fun going on the tram and watching Rob change the over head line when it came to turning the tram to go in a different direction. A special thank you to our Parent Helpers who gave up their precious time to help Group 4 - Tiffany, Joy O and our Mandarin Teacher Miss Wu.

Our Kaleidoscope Names

During the last few weeks Miss Paton introduced up to a really cool Maths Art Activity called Kaleidoscope Names. First we had to fold a square piece of paper into quarter or eighths. From there we had to write our names in block lettering. Then we had to fold one of our quarters or eighths underneath the bold lettering. We traced our names in the second segment which created a reflection. The folds acted like mirror lines. We did this throughout. It was fun making reflections with our names.
