Forensics with Constable Cam

This week we have been very lucky to have Constable Cam in from the New Zealand Police to give us some Forensic lessons. Yesterday and today the class have been learning about gathering evidence. Today we focused on creating fingerprints using some ink paper. From there we had to analyse the finger prints and work out the types of finger prints we have. There are three types of finger prints: whorls, loops and arches.

Kitchen Chemistry: Why Popping Candy Pops?

Today in the Senior Hub we learnt about reactions when Popping Candy is added to these liquids: Coca Cola, Vinegar, Water, Milk and Cooking Oil. We learnt that the Popping Candy reacted the most when it was added to Coca Cola and Vinegar. This was due to the carbon dioxide released in Coca Cola and that Vinegar is very acidic and it reacted faster.

Here are the photos from today's lesson.

Fun with Bee-Bots

Today Room 5 had a surprise lesson. They were the first class in the school to have a play with our new Bee Bots. Bee Bots are these programmable robots that can move along the carpet. These robots can take up to 40 commands and can move up to 150mm. They can move in these directions: forwards, backwards, left and right. It was a fun lesson to watch everyone's faces light up. During the lesson the children had to direct their Bee Bot through mazes made from ice block sticks.

Years 6, 7 & 8 Girls Dressed in Confidence Programme

Today the Years 6, 7 & 8 girls took part in the Dressed in Confidence Programme. We had fashion stylist Nora Swann come out to work with the girls.  The focus was about appreciating one of your characteristics and features. In the next coming weeks the girls will design their own t-shirt to walk down the catwalk during a fashion show and they can choose accessories. Here are some photos of today's session.

A Perfect Afternoon for Sport

Today was such a glorious day that it was a perfect afternoon to get out and have a few games of sport. We played Dodge Ball as a whole class. Then we were split up into four groups and had two rotations of Turbo Touch and Soccer. The rotations were for 15 minutes.
