Whetu and Nick Recount By Lesina

By.Lesina

On Wednesday 31st, 2019 we went to the theatre to watch a show about
Whetu and Nick. I was excited because of all the adventures and watch a show with some
romance or comedy. At the beginning of the show the lights dramatically turned black and
the show started. I was squealing in my head. A few scenes later Whetu spoke fluent Maori
and luckily Cleo and I knew most of the words. Nick would translate some words.

My favourite part of the scene was when Nick was trying to shake Whetu's
hand. Whetu slowly went in to do a hongi. A Hongi is when you let someone into your personal
bubble and exchange breath with that person.

Soon a loud dramatic sound shattered, and made me hop up from my seat.
Then Tawhirimatae (God of Wind) spoke out to Whetu and blew the wind side to
side. Then she saw Nick looking for Captain Cook’s map. Then the wind teased him by
moving the map up and down, side to side and around him. Then she blew away from him.
Whetu and Nick hung out together throughout the beginning scenes and were known as friends

All the scenes were the same, but they were ok. The background was alright but the
sound effects were very good. The sounds were clear especially when the thunder happened.
The thunder gave me a fright. In the wilderness, Whetu had her kite out and Nick said it looked
like a bird. Nick squealed like a bird. Whetu followed along the kite which was
called manu tukutuku. She kept that kite to signal her family and to bring them back
to her.

Near the end of the show, the God of the wind Tawhitimatea blew Whetu’s kite and Nicks map
behind the bushes. Eventually, Whetu forgave Nick about the whole thing that had
happened. They both were friends again. Who knows what would have happened if
Nick and Whetu never met? Maybe they would have never be friends or it could have
been a story about Whetu and the wind or even Nick and Captain Cook. After all,
I really loved Whetu and Nick’s story. It was fascinating and funny, Just one
thing I disliked was when all of the other schools were very loud, especially the
school behind us. The show was amazing and great. We headed out and took plenty
of photos with Whetu and Nick. We were waiting for the bus for a few more
minutes. Later the bus came and I was craving for food, but I was so happy to
have seen the show Whetu and Nick.
