A volcano is an opening usually in a mountain. Whenever a volcano erupts, it
lets out hot magma, gas and lava. Volcano eruptions can cause tsunamis, flash
floods, earthquakes, when eruptions happen they can knock out entire forests.
It is known as a “wildfire”.

Volcanoes are formed when magma from the earth’s surface. Tectonic plates
create magma as it melts and it builds up. Another name for magma is classified
as lava.

Volcanoes are classified as active, dormant or extinct. Active volcanoes means
there has been recent activities. Dormant means it has erupted but it could erupt
again. And lastly extinct volcanoes haven’t erupted for such a long time that they
could never erupt again.

The earth is made up of slabs called tectonic plates. When the oceanic plate goes
under the continental plate, it causes friction which is called subduction can also
form earthquakes.

Facts about volcanoes:
There are 1510 active volcanoes around the world and 80 or more are under
water. The name volcano originated from the God of fire Vulcan in Greek
mythology.
The United States of America comes third in active volcanoes, they are right
behind Indonesia which is second and Japan take the cake in the first place!

Volcanoes is a very interesting topic to research. I bet there are loads of
undiscovered volcanoes waiting to be found.

Overall I enjoyed this and although volcanoes are dangerous, they are
intriguing landforms.

I would love to see an active volcano erupt.
