My Time at MOTAT By Rhianne

This is my MOTAT recount  it took to weeks to write. I have been learning to elaborate my ideas fully into paragraphs.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I went to MOTAT. I hadn’t been to MOTAT
in such a long time that I forgot what it looked like. I was so excited to see
the Above and Beyond exhibition. I was quite disappointed because most of
their best exhibitions were gone, but I still enjoyed my time at MOTAT.

The first thing we did was the scavenger hunt. My group saw a lot of old
fire trucks, some boots, helmets, medals, wheels, hoses, and axes. During the
scavenger hunt we went to find things at the village. We needed to find some
kettles, dolls, eggs, cribs, beds, washboards ( In the washroom). After we
went to the village we had to go to the school house. My group sat at the
desks and there was also cool writing on the desk! We all stood by the table
and sang the national anthem. The boys were so funny when they sang it.
Did you know that every morning the teachers would check the students
finger nails and if they were dirty the teacher would slap the kids nails
with a cane.

Above And Beyond

When we finished the scavenger hunt we went to a new exhibition in MOTAT.
It was called Above and Beyond. There were a lot of exhibitions about flight.
The fun part about Above and Beyond was the space simulator. You had to
go in and stand. It looked like you were actually in space. There was a
countdown and it looked like you were in an elevator. Another one of my
favourite displays was a space game. You had to take as much junk as you
could with robots. I was winning until Reupena came and took over my
game and made me come third place.

Tram ride
After we went to Above and Beyond we went on the tram ride. We waited
for a bit at the station until we met our driver Rob. Rob drove us around the
zoo and around MOTAT 2. There were a lot of interesting facts about the tram.
When we were driving back to MOTAT we slowed down to some baby
pukekos and some older pukekos. The babies were so small and cute. They
were almost the size of Rob’s fist. Me and my group said “AWWW they’re
so cute!”. After we stopped, we took a picture in front of the tram.
Some of the boys in my group thought that Rob was going to run us over.
When we were walking back from the tram ride we bumped into Miss Paton
and Toakase. They were asking where the tram rides were.

Then we went to have lunch. Me and my group sat and ate and had a little
conversation. When we had finished eating we went with Kent our educator
and he took us to the room upstairs near the innovators room. It was called
Discovery One. Kent told us lots of things about flight. He made a slideshow
about it. He also set out some stations around the room so we could try them
out. The station I liked most was when we had to make a creation. We would
have to throw it up in the air tube and if it came out from the bottom it had
too much weight. If it came out from the top it was too light. We also learnt
about the forces of flight. There was lift, drag,  thrust, and weight.

The Telephone room

When we were walking out we walked to the telephone room. There were old
telephones like rotary telephones, communication collection and lots more.
On some of the telephones we could communicate with each other. Me and
Juliana were playing round with the telephone. After we finished visiting the
telephone room we walked to the car room. There were heaps of olden day
cars like race cars, vintage cars, a tractor and a wedding car. There was also a
steering wheel that we could try out. Me and Betty went on top of this white
deck and we acted like we were the Queens of the car room. We didn’t let
anyone on top. After we went to the car room we went into the Technology
room there were games, old TVs, old phones, a selfie machine and a morse
code sending device. Me and my friends and Virginia took a picture at the
selfie machine. There were also a lot of games such as Donkey Kong, Pacman,
a Jungle game, King Kong and much more. Then we had to go back to school.

Conclusion

My favourite part of MOTAT was Above and Beyond because there were a
lot of fun games to try and it looked liked we were actually in space. The
worst part of MOTAT was the Pump House because nothing was working and
operating it. I really enjoyed my time at MOTAT and I would love to go there
with my friends and family in the holidays.
