Kitchen Chemistry: Making Butter

Today Room 1 and all of the Year 6 students made butter. We spent the afternoon shaking cream and salt in a jar. It was fun watching the cream change from a liquid into a solid. It was very easy to shake at the beginning, but over time it got harder to shake. When the butter was made we had to separate this watery liquid from it. The process that it went through was emulsion. Once the butter was made we got to spread it onto some bread, to enjoy.

  1. Ki Ora Christ The King! My name is Mariam and I go to May Road School. At May Road,we did the same thing for kitchen chemistry. I really like how the butter turned out. At May Road School, we put the butter on crackers and we did the same thing by mixing the cream and salt. What was your favourite part of mixing the cream and salt and why?
    Thank you for reading
