Cultural Showcase Photos

These beautiful photos celebrate the diversity and cultures of our students at Christ the King School. Today we had our Cultural Showcase. It was a fantastic event celebrating these cultures: Indian, Filipino, Samoan, Tongan and Ethiopian. The children looked amazing in their costumes (lots of colour) and they danced so beautifully. During the showcase we had some lovely Maori Waiata and each class performed a Christmas item. We would like to thank all volunteers and student leaders for sharing their knowledge and skills with the groups. Without your support this event would not have been possible. The success of this event boils down to our community. The 2019 Cultural Showcase has been a real highlight to the school year.

Each day from now on we will be sharing the movie footage that was recorded at the Cultural Showcase. There will be plenty of photographs of the children dancing shared on the blog posts. We will be starting with the cultural dances and then will end the school year with the class items.

My Camp Recount By Carolyn

Finally, we were at camp I had so much energy that I was the first to get off the bus. On Wednesday, November 6th I went to Chosen Valley Christian Camp, it was a 1-hour drive! On the bus, I was jumping around on my seat not because I was excited but because the road was so bumpy.

The first thing we did was to take our bags to our cabins. In each cabin, there were seven people. The people in my cabin were Rhianne, Betty, Kanan, Ana, Lesina, Elina and me. As soon as we got into our room we chose a bed to sleep in. There was an extra bed for our stuff.

Later after settling in we had an assembly where the manager of Chosen Valley, Lyndon told us where we could go and where the out of bounds areas were. Then we were taken around the camp area to see where each activity was. We went around looking at all the fascinating activities. One of them was the confidence course which I was very eager to try.

Later we were assigned to our first activity. My first one was the Go-Karts. On my first try, I had fun, but I thought that they were too fast for my weight so I didn’t try again. Lots of people had a ton of turns but for me, I didn’t want to.

Next, we did some volleyball and had some fun on the playground. I didn’t really like playing volleyball so I just had some time on the playground.

We finally had dinner for the first night at camp. The dinner was delicious Roast chicken and potatoes and gravy. We were given a table to sit at for the rest of camp. The teachers picked different tables for students to go and collect their food.

Late at night, we went for a bushwalk up a long hill. Me and my friends became very exhausted even though we were only halfway. It was dark we weren’t allowed to go into the forest.

The next day I did kayaking. It was so much fun. We each got an oar and went into a boat. My boat went really fast. Me and Elina had a race and I won.

Next, we did balance Island where you go across a bridge and along a wire. I was one of the people who finished balance island. We also did the Rope maze. On the rope maze, you were given a hook and belt to use. To do the maze you must clip it onto the pole with its colour and try to work your way through the maze. We had to finish at the colour we started at. I finished that as well.

After that, I went to the confidence course which I loved. I went first and was confident that I could finish and guess what I finished the second level. I was the only one to finish blue without falling in.

My last activity of the day was raft building, which I think was the HARDEST activity. We were split into two teams. My team were so close to getting someone onto the raft.

Later, me and some others went for a shower while others went onto the water slide. I had a nice warm shower. When I got out I felt so refreshed. When I was ready I went to scare my friends by putting a blanket over my head. My friend Ana was actually scared and thought I was not touching the ground. She screamed so loudly she nearly made my ears pop! When she found out that it was just me we went out into the lounge area. I laid my blanket out onto the floor and made a blanket angel ( a snow angel on a Blanket). We were just sitting on the couch when some of the teachers walked by to set up the dining hall. I went to get some warm clothes and played in the playground. First, we all ran to the flying fox and I got the first turn. WHEEE!!! I zoomed across the flying fox up into the air. We were tired and we went to our cabins to have a rest.

After an hour the bell rang. We all ran out into the field ready for dinner. The year fives of CTK got to go into the dining hall first. We grabbed our cutlery, went and sat down at our tables and waited for the teacher to let us get our food. The food we had that night were Nachos. The food tasted so good. I was the first person at my table to finish my food. We finally finished dinner and everyone rushed to their dorms for some quiet time. We needed to settle down and get ready to sleep. My dorm was very quiet that night and we fell asleep first.

I was the fourth person awake the next morning. For the last day we had one activity. My activity was Archery. Archery was the activity that I was most excited about. I had a lot of fun firing the arrows.

After the activity we had to clean up before having lunch. First we had to clean up our rooms, pack up our stuff and bring it out. Kanan was the first person to finish packing. She brought her stuff out of the room. Me and Rhianne brought our stuff out and started to sleep on our pillows. We were so tired.

Finally we had burgers and chips for lunch. They were delicious. When we finished, we went up for seconds. Unfortunately we didn’t get any so we put down our bowls and went for a group photo.

Now it was time to perform. For the camp concert the girls in CTK including me did E Minaka Ana. This was quite embarrassing for me even though there was nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone had to perform something.

After everyone performed we were allowed to go onto the bus. We went into the bus and went straight to the back so we could all sit together on the way back. We watched a movie called RIO. That was the end of CAMP. I had a lot of fun at camp and I was so glad to be back home.

My Camp Recount By Galila

The day was finally here. Camp! As me and my sister were putting our bags
into the hall I was jumping with excitement. When I said goodbye to my
Mum and my Brother I was really excited and sad at the same time
because I could not see my family for three days and two nights.
I put my bag where
the bus driver said to put them. When everyone got onto the

bus everyone was waving goodbye to their parents. When we

drove out of the school grounds, everyone was just chatting.
When we arrived at camp the bus driver took out
everyone’s bags and we got our bags. We went into
the place we were staying in. Then we had a CTK
Assembly. Mrs Kopua was just talking about the
rules about camp. Then when she showed us
our cabins.

We went into our cabins and started making our beds. After we
finished making our beds St Theresa School came. We had an
assembly with the person in charge of the camp. His name was Lyndon.
Then we had some
free time. The bell rang and we did some activities. I did
go karting. When I went on the go kart it was going as
fast as a cheetah. On the go kart, I fell out a couple of
times but I got better. I also did volleyball with Miss Virginia.

Later at night, everyone was going for a bushwalk.
Everyone’s legs were getting tired. We got to the destination.
We looked at the view and the teachers were taking pictures.
There was so much long dry grass that it kept scratching my legs.
Then we went back to base camp. I brushed my teeth and went to bed.
When we woke up the next morning we got ready for the day.
Then the bell rang for breakfast. We went to eat.
When we finished our breakfast we had free time.
When the free time was over I got dressed for kayaking.

When I onto the kayak, I was so scared because people

were saying there was an eel. People had to help me with
the kayaking because I last did kayaking back in 2017.
After kayaking, we did the balance island.

Everyone did balance island. I was so scared that
when I had completed walking
over the bridge, I said “I was done to
Miss Paton” (The person in charge of the
balanced island).

After balance island, we did the confidence course.
Mrs Dale explained the confidence course.
Then when it was my turn to do the
confidence course I was scared like a plane crashing. Then
Mrs Dale said that I could do each part whenever I liked.
So that’s what I did.

Next was raft building with Mrs MacDonald.
My group got into two teams and we tried to make a raft.
At the end when we were done we tied the
raft together but it was too late. Then Mrs Kopua
said that the people who want to go on the water slide can.
I didn’t want to go on the water slide. So I took a shower.
My friends and I weren’t going on the water slide,
so we decided to play in the lounge.

Then we had dinner. Then we brush our teeth and went to bed.
In the morning I woke up to the sound of the people in my cabin talking.
I got ready for the day. Then we had breakfast.
The last activity was for my group was archery.
When it was my turn I fired the arrow and it
landed on the blue and red parts of the target.
Then we had biscuits. Then we packed everything
we owned and put our bags outside. The bell rang for lunch.
We had burgers and fries. After lunch we had our skits.
We did them. Then we went on the bus and went back to CTK.
I was so happy to see my Brother and my Mum.
Overall I enjoyed camp and I am looking forward to the next one.

Gymnastics Fun

On Wednesday we have our coach Ashley from Tri Star come in and teach us Gymnastics. Last Wednesday our session focused on balance. It was a fun lesson as a lot of our learning entitled working with a buddy to balance ourselves against. We had lots of laughs and enjoyment during the lesson.
