Angel's Tapa Reflection

Tapa Cloth Reflection

1.Are you pleased with your accomplishment? Why / Why Not?
Yes I am pleased with my work because it came out good and how I would have wanted
it to be. Overall it was a beautiful Tapa and it looked really good at end of this process.

2. What were some of the most interesting discoveries you made while
working on your Tapa Cloth? About the task? About myself?
That I made a few mistakes and at the end after I had completed the Tapa it turned
out good. It looked like I had no mistakes.

3. What were some of my most challenging moments in making my Tapa Cloth
and what made them so?
The most challenging moments was having to draw my design onto the big Tapa paper
which was quite hard because I first did it in my maths book and then had to redo it
onto a big paper. It was quite challenging.

4. What would you do differently if you were to make a Tapa Cloth again?
I would try a different island design and see how it goes. I would also try and do
it on a smaller or bigger piece of paper to see if it would make it look better or worse.

5. What / who helped you with your Tapa Cloth?
I searched up some Tapa cloth ideas on Google images and I took some ideas from
other Tapas. I put the designs altogether and then I transferred it onto a bigger piece
of paper.

6. What could you modify / alter on your Tapa Cloth
I would have made my design a bit better and create more challenging designs
for me to do.

7. What aspect of your Tapa Cloth are you most proud of?
I am quite proud of my design because it came out really bold and it showed
great contrast of colour.

Ferah's Tapa Cloth Reflection

Tapa Cloth Reflection

I am proud of my accomplish because due to it representing my culture and over looking better than I
expected.

A part of the process was scrunching the paper to make it look old and when Miss Paton (my teacher)
did mine
I thought it strange and unusual. However, even with a few rips it looked better than I would have
thought. Another interesting discovery I made about the task itself was that bleach could be used to
whiten dark coloured paper.

A challenging moment was creating a perfectly symmetrical and identical pattern on either
side of the paper.

If I were to create this differently I think I would have tried a different pattern that was less detailed and
easier to draw, dye and bleach in small places.

A few things that inspired me to do this pattern were on google images. I also had help from my friends
suggesting where I could dye or bleach. My teacher was also a large help as she provided instructions
on how to create this artwork.

To modify these patterns, I could of chosen a more authentic and less easy pattern to go around the centre
or bolden the lines so they were more seeable from a distance.

The aspect of my tapa cloth that I am most proud of is the colour contrast and the pattern I chose to
draw in the centre and the borders.

Should Cadbury Close it's Dunedin Factory? By Cathy

Cadbury Is Closed
By Cathy / Catherine
Image result for cadbury
When someone says Cadbury we all think about that yummy
tasty chocolate that has been one of everyone's favourites. By
closing the Cadbury factory in Dunedin lots of things have
affected New Zealand.

In 1930 Cadbury teamed up and made the first ever cadbury bar
of chocolate. When people had tasted the chocolate they all
liked it and that’s when Cadbury started to wow everyone by the
amazing taste.

When you think about that tasty chocolate you feel happy but
when you hear the the factory in dunedin has closed and all the
way in Australia the have started a chocolate factory you feel
sad and don’t believe what your hearing at first, but sadly this is
for real, this is all true.

There are so many reasons to be sad because lots of workers
have lost their jobs and because the new chocolate factory is in
Australia bringing the chocolate to local supermarkets will be
hard and expensive because it’s coming from overseas and the
chocolate probably will cost more.

Another thing I am sad about is that New Zealand's Cadbury
history is going to be lost. Did you know that since 2002 every
year Cadbury does a race with chocolate jaffa balls. They roll
jaffers down the steepest street in the world that is Baldwin
Street and sees which jaffer ball reaches the end first.

Con:
Closing Cadbury is heartbreaking for all chocolate lovers like me.
We can’t do anything now but I vehemently, believe that
Cadbury shouldn't have been closed!!!

My Tapa Reflection By Karla

For maths, we are learning about translation, rotation and refelxtion through tapa cloths. These were my results:

Are you pleased with your accomplishment? Why / Why Not? I am because I like the way it looks and I liked the process in making it.

 2. What were some of the most interesting discoveries you made while working on your Tapa Cloth? About the task? About myself? Surprisingly, I learnt that when bleach goes on dye it will turn white. Successfully my tapa had reflection, rotation and translation, which was my goal after completing this task.

3. What were some of my most challenging moments in making my Tapa Cloth and what made them so? After when my dye was dried, I had to bleach to make some details white. The challenging bit was when I had to go in the detail and I would try not to bleach on the brown dye. Later, luckily we could fix up the mistakes with some brown dye.

 4. What would you do differently if you were to make a Tapa Cloth again? Make sure the designs are more detailed.

 5. What / who helped you with your Tapa Cloth? At the start we ruled 3 by 3 cm squares to help us with the designs. At the end, thankfully we could dye over our mistakes.

 6. What could you modify / alter on your Tapa Cloth? If I made another design my Tapa would look more bold and outstanding than it already is.

 7. What aspect of your Tapa Cloth are you most proud of? My favourite part of my tapa is my design, it’s not really bold but I like that it shows rotation and reflection

Chocolate Disaster By Cleo

Richard Hudson arrived in Dunedin and opened up his first biscuit bake house. All of a sudden, cups of tea had never tasted so good. At that time it was the year 1868, Richard Hudson was the first person to begin the chocolate franchise. In 1930 Mr Hudson and Cadbury teamed up to make New Zealand’s first bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate.

New Zealand had a beautiful Cadbury Chocolate Factory. Chocolate was made here in New Zealand for over 150 years, and nearly everyone loved the sweet, mouth watering taste of chocolate. Until one sad day...  The Cadbury chocolate factory was moving to Australia and my thoughts on this aren’t that nice.

Some people thought it was a nightmare but for me I was scared. I’m afraid that Australia might change the recipe for everyone’s beloved chocolates for example they might change Pineapple lumps or even chocolate bars.

It says that the manufacturer failed, I don’t know why but it’s sad. I’m hoping that Australia won’t change anything and they’ll just stick to the original recipe. I bet the impact will be tragic to all kiwis (People) in New Zealand because it was such an honour to make chocolates here in New Zealand and now the opportunity is gone.

The impact is a very big one because since the factory has closed some people have lost their jobs. As a result some people will not be able to pay their bills or even make anymore chocolate here in New Zealand. It’s such a shame that we don’t have the privilege to make chocolate anymore. It’ll also be hard for some people who have been working there for 30-40 years to find jobs. As time goes on you’ll grow older and it’ll make it harder to find a good paying job.

But in the end of the day New Zealand will lose big time because Australia is taking all the credit and whenever someone buys chocolate instead of the money going to New Zealand instead it’ll go to Australia.

The Model T Car By Karla

For reading, we are reading a book about hybrid cars, fuel powered cars and electric cars.
We had three options. We could either write about the model t car, compare all the types of cars or
make a digital learning object on renewable car and non renewable cars. I picked the Model T Car.

Our Elephants - Elmer Themed

During the last week of term, we made elephants in the theme of the story book character Elmer the Elephant. We used plastic milk bottles to create our elephants and linked very nicely to our Inquiry unit which focused on Sustainability - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Reducing Plastic Waste at School By Ana

Plastics
I feel we need to tackle the litter problem at school level.
I think that our school should reduce plastic and packaging.
By doing this it will help our school become a better
environment.

Also having containers and ziplock bags are better too
because we can reuse them for packaging of foods.
We could have nude foods as they provide no litter,
and would be great  for a worm farm and in the compost
bin.

The kind of nude foods you can eat are bananas, apples,
pears and mandarins. If your parents give you any
packaging foods, then tell them to put it in usable
containers and ziplock bags.

Another option at school level is to have separate bins for fruit
scraps, plastic, recycling and waste. We could educate our
kids to put their rubbish in the right bins. We could have different
coloured bins and also to put the labels on.

Our school should be rubbish free so that we have no litter
around.

Plastic Free Environment By Tiana

Try Being Plastic Free

I am ashamed how much litter is settling into the environment.
I vehemently think that our community could stop using plastic packaging
and shiny foil.

Parents you should think about the consequences
with the plastic in our waterways.
I am confident that Christ the King School can be a plastic free school by
having nude foods like bananas, apples and definitely the use of containers
for snacks eg. peanuts, jelly and yogurt.

We need to work harder. In 2050 there will be even more plastic in the ocean
than all the fish in the sea. Our Planet can be greener than it already is.

My Whanau could try putting rubbish in the right bins and use less Plastic
Wrapping. My Whanau could definitely try nude lunches.

It is really extraordinary what you can do without plastic and foil.
My favourite thing about litter free homes or schools is you can reduce
plastic plastic bags for cotton bags, fabric bags, material bags or even tote bags.

It is great what you can do if  you want to be litter free. I will definitely try
litter free lunches.

Water Pollution Movie By Meron and Ana

In Room One for reading we have been learning about water pollution. I have learnt that chemicals can cause pollution. I have also learnt that factories that produce chemicals, go into the ocean. This is my groups video we made it on water pollution.

Argument about plastic on our environment By Angel

Argument on Plastic in our school
The impact of plastic on our environment is repulsive. You need to understand
the impact that plastic rubbish has an impact on our oceans. Scientists have
discovered and believe that in 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in
our oceans “There are more pieces of microplastic in the sea than there are
stars in our galaxy” So let’s make a change about this big situation, that a lot
of people don’t care about our world. I vehemently believe and encourage others
that we must all put our rubbish in the right bin and use less of plastic and more
reusable items.

Families could try and reduce using plastic bags, glad wrap, and aluminium foil.
So families from our school should now start reusing items for lunch like reusable
ziplock bags or reusable containers. Also Families could create a litter free lunch
box by not using plastic items. In my opinion, I suggest that all families should
start buying lunch boxes that have little compartments in them. I think that
having these lunch boxes at our school is a good choice and it could make a
big difference.

For example, in your lunchbox with little compartments you could have things in it
like fruits, nuts, or sandwiches. Another name for these types of foods are known
as “nude foods”. Nude foods are foods that are not wrapped up in plastic, such
as glad wrap, plastic wrappers, etc.

In my opinion, if I was a parent I would absolutely agree on buying this lunchbox
because it is a lot cleaner, cheaper and would make our school a better environment.
Our school would look a lot cleaner with less plastic laying around our school
than usual. Overall would you want to live in a world full of plastic everywhere
you go? If not, then why keep littering? What’s the point on trying to reduce
using plastic if everyone is just throwing their rubbish everywhere like our world
is a big fat dumpster.

Do you want to reduce using plastic? I do, all I want is for everyone to be around
a safe and litter free school. Do you want to make a change? Well I strongly
believe that everybody can help make a big difference and make our surroundings
a better space to be around everyday. At the end of the day I am trying to get a
message out to everyone, so that each and everyone of you can put some effort
into making our school a better, cleaner, healthier and a litter free school.

I am quite disgusted to even be on this earth, seeing people purposely throwing
their rubbish on the ground as if it’s a rubbish bin, seeing people walk past plastic
rubbish on the ground as if it’s invisible. This is horrific and it’s really disturbing.
Sometimes just seeing people doing this, always makes you think twice about what
you are doing. One piece of rubbish, could kill sea and land animals all around our
world. Animals could risk becoming extinct due to the rubbish that they consume.

Plastic can also block our sewage system. These wrappers can pollute our
water as they cannot decompose. We could get very sick if our water is not clean.
I am really passionate about having a clean environment, where plastic is not
polluting our oceans and sea animals can swim freely.

So I suggest you start using less plastic, and start thinking more on
how to make our environment a litter free school. STOP ruining God’s wonderful
creation that he has given us to live and to protect, and to also stop hurting
God’s precious land and sea animals that we are killing daily.
DO YOU WANT TO SAVE OUR EARTH FROM PLASTIC? So start now and make
a difference by just doing something little as in not leaving your own rubbish
behind and if you see a plastic rubbish on the floor “see a need, respond and
pick it up”. “Serve God and grow” Respect God’s beautiful creation because
God did not make us come into this world to damage and to ruin his creation.
Be the bigger person and do what is right. Keep our environment clean today.
